SPOTLIGHT: ZILLA AND HOT BUTTERED RUM
Zilla
Zilla is a Colorado based trio of musicians with the live experience in mind. A 100% organic, improvised experience, each Zilla concert proves to be a completely new occurrence, with even the band members having no idea where the music will take them night after night. Relying on their uncanny ability to listen and incorporate their individual talents into a group focused brand of live electronic dance music, Zilla is sweeping the country by storm with their rare breed of beats, bass and uncontrollable musical fury making each performance exactly what live music is all about: spontaneity, grooves, and a damn good dance party.
Forming in Boulder, CO, Zilla began as a quintet before changing to it’s current three man roster comprised of acclaimed musicians: Michael Travis (formerly the drummer of SCI), Aaron Holstein, and Jamie Janover. Read more about Zilla.
Hot Buttered Rum
Hot Buttered Rum, one of the hardest-working and fastest-rising stars in the musical firmament, has become, over the last five years, a group that is infinitely greater than the sum of its parts. It began with a core of five uniquely talented musicians, writing and singing songs on the mountaintops and city streets of Northern California; five musicians who, on the night they realized they loved playing together too much to ever stop, were sipping a warm buttery drink from which the group derived its name. Since that fateful night, the organization has steadily expanded to include a rich tapestry of fans, friends, and family, reaching from coast to coast.
Often described as a rock band playing bluegrass instruments, the band melds blues, folks, bluegrass, jazz, and rock, and the members’ varying degrees of classical training lead them to invest heavily in group composition. The widespread appeal of HBR’s music stems not only from the band’s musical versatility and prolific songwriting, but also from the magnetic chemistry the group creates onstage together. It is this chemistry that is propelling the band to ever greater success.
Praise for HBR:
“Stunning instrumental and vocal virtuosity."
Relix Magazine
“Few things rejuvenate the soul like a warm fireside drink after an exhausting day in the snow. Hot Buttered Rum has that effect. Their original songs are instantly familiar and inviting, and their easygoing versions of timeless classics (the Beatles, Hank Williams) belie the intricacy of the arrangements.”
San Francisco Chronicle

4 PEAKS IN THE MEDIA AND ON THE WEB
Here's slideshow from a festival patron who went to 4 Peaks last year.
"The centerpiece of the road trip was the 4 Peaks Music Festival just outside Bend, Oregon. The fest was in a beautiful area between the 3 Sisters and Mt. Jeffereson. The music was great with highlights from Hot Buttered Rum, ALO, New Monsoon, Rainmaker, and late night jams from the Moon Mountain Ramblers."
Thanks to Lisa Dragna for all the wonderful photos. Be sure to check out her 4 Peaks gallery.
